Wanted: More Licensed Boat Operators

The Club needs licensed boat drivers, especially for the Head of the Housatonic. In Connecticut this means having a Safe Boating Certificate (license) issued by the State. It is issued after taking a Boating Safety Class. Classes are conducted by the Coast Guard Auxiliary and are available throughout the state. The Milford Flotilla conducts an all day class on certain Saturdays, from 8am to 5pm, at the successful completion of which one gets certified to operate an outboard or other powerboat in CT. The next two sessions are Sat August 11 and Sat Sept 15. Registration must be done by Aug 5 and Sept 9 respectively. While the course cost is $60, if you agree to drive a launch at the Head of the Housy this year (Oct. 6), the Regatta will pay for $40 of the fee, for the first 5 members (or learn-to-rowers) who areinterested.

For more information on registration and where to go, call 203-874-0200 or Ron Bellmore at 203-736-6446. There is also a course offered in West Haven. For information on that, call Charles Phippen at 860-828-5438. For other questions or if you are going to sign up, please call or email Carroll Brooke at 203-261-7714 or hbrooke (AT)optonline (DOT) net.
