The Head Season is Here

The fall season has arrived, and a number of boats have been set for the Head of the Charles, 10/20-10/21: Steve Burt and Ned Williams are in as a double, as are Claire Potter and Dianne Kelly. There are several accepted singles entries as well, which could not be llisted at the time of publication, as that part of the site is currently down; click on the HOCR link on this page and see if it's back up! You'll definitely find Mitz Carr there. Meanwhile the sweep rowers are working to set boats for the Big Day; recently, the women were seen doing an erg test in preparation for picking boats.

Let this be an opportunity to say, however, that the participation of many members in head racing does not need to be driven by this prestige race, and should not be. There are many other great races, many of them local, that we should all be thinking about, whether we are Cambridge-bound at the end of October or not. Those races can be found on the Row2K calendar and include: Coastweeks Regatta, 9/16; the GMS Challenge, 9/23; Head of the Riverfront, 9/30; our very own Housie, 9/6 and the dreaded Head of the Connecticut on 9/7; and the Head of the Schuykill, 10/27.

One of this year's developments has been more members training seriously in the single: don't forget that doing a race onthe single is one of the requirements for qualifying as a senior sculler. Consider it this year!
