Helma Chartier, of the Sunshine Committee, tells us that there will be a TGIF, Friday, July 11, at 6:30. For those among the uninitiated, this is an athletic event only in the sense that instruction on the correct angle for bringing a glass, or fork, to your mouth will be provided if necessary. Helma says: "Mark your calendar and plan to come straight from work for our first summer TGIF. Cost only $10. Here's what you get in addition to meeting lots of interesting people. Plan to bring your spouse or friend. Taco Salad Bar (All the ingredients will be laid our and you build your own salad), Dessert, and, of course a variety of refreshing Beverages...sangria, wine, beer, soda, ice tea. RSVP if you plan to attend so we can plan for adequate amounts of food and beverage. No money necessary ahead of time." And by the way Helma -- it's great to see you back in action!

Mark Schofield tells us that a work day is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, with a rain date for the 20th. Just like at your own house, there are a range of things to do around the boat house that -- if we don't do them -- they get worse, and then suddenly Urban Renewal is banging on the door and wanting to replace us with a theme park. Jobs that need doing include:
1) Scrape, prime and paint the metal railings on the outdoor stairs.
2) Sand and varnish the outside of the doors from the club room onto the deck.
3) Remove gutter covers and clean out guttering at the front of the boat house deck. Work gloves needed.
4) Weed gravel area around boat house and flower beds. Please bring tools and gloves.
5) Prune shrubbery near the dock/ramp. Please bring tools and gloves.
6) Remove remains of blue tape left over from staining the shingles.
7) Cut and attach casing around the inside of the main entrance. Material provided but someone with trim carpentry skills and tools needed.
8) Pressure wash dock. Anyone have a pressure washer?
9) Vacuum out bottom of private sculls rack.
10) Wash windows of bay doors and double doors facing the road.
Wear work clothes, and if possible, let Mark know if there is a job you feel particularly qualified for or excited about.

The Board of Directors is meeting Thursday, July 11, at 6:30. Board members should definitely come; others are invited.

Claire Potter is currently assembling commitments for parking volunteers and trash pick-up for the Head of the Housatonic Regatta, October 11 2008. The good news is that this year we are hoping to keep club members out of the parking lots entirely, except in supervisory roles; and we hope to have teams working in shifts so those long days that some of you have endured will be eliminated. But we need your help in making contacts with organizations for whom community service is part of their mandate, and who -- by recruiting them as a group -- we can acquire 5-10 volunteers at a time who will work as a unit. Please let Claire know if you have a connection with a scout troop, a youth sports team, a fraternity, or la Cosa Nostra. Small donations to the organization are possible, and we will make assignments age-appropriate. If you have such a contact, write Claire at cpotter258*AT*earthlink*DOT*net with the details.
