Attention: Members Needed to Join the Boat Selection Committee

Please consider accepting a position on the new Boat Selection Committee. This committee will determine a Boat Purchase Protocol for evaluating the need for boats for NHRC and will, after following this protocol, present its findings to the Board of Directors for approval to purchase boats.

The committee will meet in the near future several times to develop and formalize the protocol. Thereafter, it will meet only at such times as the board directs, probably, annually. The protocol, itself, will continue to be a work in progress, being updated and fine-tuned as the committee and the board see necessary.

The members of the committee should be familiar with the various boats in use by NHRC, should have experience rowing several types of boat in our club environment, should have some understanding of the boat marketplace and should be willing to spend time evaluating NHRC's need for boats within the guidelines of this new Boat Purchase Protocol.

The underlying reason for establishing this committee is to standardize the procedure for evaluating NHRC's need for additions to it's boat inventory against the availability of club funds to purchase such boats. The protocol will optimize the selection criteria, removing as far as possible, the pressure of special interest groups, the whimsy of perceived needs and the irresponsible commitment of unallocated club funds. It will establish actual needs and present the Board with the opportunity to make informed, arms-length decisions. Finally, the use of the protocol allows new members on the committee to use established guidelines in their boat purchase choices.

At present, the committee consists of Carroll Brooke and Steve Gurney. It would be appropriate that there be two female members, as well. If you are interested, and are not a member of the Board of Directors, please reply to me as soon as possible.
